Dr Paul Marks has been working as a radiologist for over twenty years with extensive and diverse clinical training across a range of disciplines, including as an AFL accredited radiologist. He joined Imaging Associates Group in 2013 and is a specialist in sports and spinal imaging and treatment.

Paul gained his medical degree at Monash University in 1989, graduating with Honours. He completed his internship and surgical residency at Monash Health and worked for several years as an emergency registrar at the Austin Hospital. He has also worked as a locum general practitioner. Paul trained as a radiologist at the Austin Hospital from 1995 until 1999 and then completed a dual fellowship in Sports Imaging in Australia and San Francisco. 

Paul’s priority as a radiologist is always to provide the very highest quality of patient care and clinical diagnosis and treatment.

Before joining Imaging Associates, Paul’s previous roles included Director of Radiology at Ringwood Private Hospital, specialising in oncology, Director at The Avenue Private Hospital in Windsor where he worked extensively in Orthopaedic and Spinal medicine, and Director of Imaging at Olympic Park working with the Olympic Park sports medicine physicians as well as local doctors and specialists.

Paul has a strong commitment to professional education and training and has lectured extensively both in Australia and internationally. He has led a successful radiology fellowship training program for many years and has worked closely with the Australian Physiotherapy Association providing specialist lectures for Masters’ students. He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles, has written a book chapter on Metatarsalgia, and has overseen PhD and Masters level research. Over the course of his career, Paul has also enjoyed an extensive media career having appeared in programs as diverse as Emergency, Catalyst and Fox Footy Insider, where he diagnosed and treated well-known football ex-player, Jason Dunstall’s hamstring!  

Paul specialises in all forms of sports and spinal injections and is an AFL accredited radiologist, pioneering the use of Game Day Imaging using ultrasound to treat and diagnose injuries. He has been responsible for imaging and treating hundreds of AFL players and elite athletes, including cricketer Muththiah Muralitharan and he has pioneered new forms of injection techniques to extend the life of player’s knees. His work in relation to stem cell research for regeneration of knee joint articular cartilage was highlighted in the ABC’s Catalyst program in 2009. Paul has also worked closely with the Hawthorn Football Club over several years and counts providing Game Day imaging and treatment at four successful AFL premierships as amongst his career highlights.

In addition to his experience and depth of knowledge, Paul is known for his always calm and gentle manner and his injection techniques. He is friendly, focused and always compassionate.
