A Medicare gap (or out-of-pocket cost) is the difference between your medical imaging service fee and the combined amount of the Medicare rebate refunded to you.
Although Medicare may cover part of the fees for most Medical Imaging scans and procedures, there may be a gap which you are required to pay.
Our reception staff will advise you of the price of your appointment and any gap fee that is payable on the day of your scan.
Assignment of Benefit Consent
From 1 July 2026, patients attending a bulk-billed (no out-of-pocket) diagnostic imaging examination will be asked to complete an Assignment of Benefit consent form. Assignment of Benefit authorises Medicare to pay your Medicare benefit directly to Imaging Associates.
If this consent is required for your appointment, our reception team will ask you to complete a brief form before your scan. This is a standard Medicare billing requirement and will not affect your appointment, your Medicare eligibility, or the care you receive.
Our staff will assist you with completing the form and are available to answer any questions you may have.
My Health Records
Imaging Associates participates in the Australian Government’s My Health Record system. Where required, your diagnostic imaging report may be uploaded to your My Health Record. Your referring healthcare provider will continue to receive your results directly, and uploading your report does not change how your results are communicated. Please inform our team if you would prefer your examination results not be uploaded to My Health Records.
