Specialties: Urology, Spinal and Sports Imaging and Intervention.
Dr Chris Holden helped form Imaging Associates in 2008, first attracted by the philosophy and difference of being an Australian organisation, owned and operated by a team of radiologists, in a sector primarily composed of large national and international corporations.
Chris was initially appointed to the inaugural role of Imaging Associates Clinical Director, where he was responsible for overseeing the clinical governance of over 40 radiologists. In 2019, Chris was elected Chair of the Imaging Associates Group, where he is now responsible for maintaining the very highest standards of patient care across Imaging Associates’ entire range of specialist clinical and diagnostic imaging services.
Chris embodies the values that are at the very heart of Imaging Associates’ approach to patient care; he is warm, inclusive, collaborative and approachable.
Chris studied medicine at the University of Melbourne, graduating in 1997 from The Royal Melbourne. He then trained as a radiologist at St Vincent’s Hospital. He completed Fellowships in MRI, focusing on body and neurological imaging and subsequently a Musculoskeletal fellowship with Symbion Health. He is also a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Chris’ particular areas of interest and expertise are spinal and sports imaging and intervention, MRI, MSK and urology. For him, radiology is a field of medicine that is anatomical, interventional and continually evolving as a critical diagnostic and interventional medical tool. As a radiologist, Chris continues to be excited by the constant and rapid advances in imaging technology; the need for radiology to provide real time interaction and support for patients and clinicians is paramount. Technological highlights include dynamic functional joint and vascular CT imaging, a growing community need for musculoskeletal interventions, incredibly advanced MRI and ultrasound imaging and breast tomosynthesis.
Chris’ goal is to ensure that Imaging Associates remains a leading provider of radiology services by addressing the concerns of patients, referrers and radiologists in a seamless fashion. Ensuring that Imaging Associates’ patients, staff and partners are always involved, informed and cared for is an absolute priority. This demands continual review and improvement of practices and investment in technology and people to ensure Imaging Associates’ team is the best in their fields of expertise.
As Chairperson, Chris works in partnership with Eastern Health and the Murrumbidgee Local Health District, focusing on improving relationships with the local community, and in particular working with General Practice liaison programs and local physiotherapy groups.
Chris embodies the values that are at the very heart of Imaging Associates’ approach to patient care; he is warm, inclusive, collaborative and approachable. For Chris, best practice in medical care must be founded in a partnership between doctors and patients. The respect he has for patients, colleagues and other healthcare professionals is clear in all that he undertakes. He is highly empathetic and genuinely interested in people and their stories.
Over the course of his career, Chris has worked with a number of elite Australian sporting codes and international athletes. He has been integral in providing the Hawthorn Football Club’s game day imaging and in collaboration with Imaging Associates’ Dr. Paul Marks, introduced a new model for player care. Chris prides himself on his ability to administer accurate, gentle injections to the musculoskeletal system and spine.
