A Doctor-Owned, Doctor-Led Focus on Patient Outcomes

As a doctor-owned and doctor-led organisation, our focus is always on maximising patient outcomes. This means clinical decisions are driven by medical expertise, ensuring the highest level of care in every service we offer.

A Commitment to Innovation

Innovation is central to our practice, essential for better patient outcomes and more efficient healthcare. In recent years, Imaging Associates has introduced several pioneering initiatives to enhance diagnostic accuracy and streamline workflows.

We have introduced 3D mammography across all key mammography clinics. This advanced technology offers 30% greater accuracy in detecting early-stage breast cancers compared to traditional 2D mammograms. This advancement enables earlier and more precise diagnoses, significantly improving patient outcomes in critical moments.

We have also been an early adopter of artificial intelligence (AI) to assist in image analysis, which has revolutionised our radiology practice. These AI-driven tools act as a second pair of eyes helping our radiologists detect subtle abnormalities more efficiently and reducing turnaround times. Faster reporting allows for quicker, more informed clinical decisions, benefiting both patients and healthcare providers.

Our integration of cloud-based imaging platforms has further enhanced collaboration with referring healthcare providers. Clinicians can access images and reports remotely, leading to quicker treatment plans and improved coordination of care. This seamless data flow plays a vital role in providing timely healthcare and optimising patient outcomes.

Pioneers in Game Day Radiology

Imaging Associates pioneered game day imaging in the AFL. Since 2008, we’ve partnered with elite sports teams, including Hawthorn and Carlton, to provide real-time diagnostic imaging during matches.

Dr Paul Marks, Clinical Director at Imaging Associates Box Hill and Chairperson and radiologist, Dr Chris Holden were instrumental in introducing this service. This journey began during the 2008 AFL Grand Final when Dr Paul Marks offered his skills as a game day radiologist, a first in AFL history. Equipped with an ultrasound machine the size of a small fridge, Dr Marks helped deliver rapid diagnoses and treatments during the game, including guided anaesthetic injections for injured players.

This innovative approach played a critical role in Hawthorn’s success and has since become an integral part of the team’s medical support

Today, this service is led by Dr. Mark Rassie, Rowville Clinical Director and MSK lead, along with Dr. Johan Smalberger, using portable tablet-style ultrasound units to provide fast and accurate imaging for soft tissue and internal injuries. This essential service ensures player safety and informs swift medical decisions, helping teams make the best choices for player welfare and match strategy.

Investing in People and Partnerships

Our recognition in the Telstra Business Awards also reflects our ongoing investment in our people and partnerships. Our highly skilled radiologists, medical professionals and hard-working staff are the backbone of our success. We are committed to their continuous professional development to stay at the forefront of medical imaging advancements.

Collaborations with AFL clubs like Hawthorn and Carlton have cemented our role as leaders in sports medical imaging. In partnership with Carlton Football Club, we are developing a state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging facility at IKON Park, set to open in 2025, providing cutting-edge diagnosis and treatment to athletes and also ensuring the local community has access to high quality imaging.

Outstanding Growth: Expanding Our Reach and Services

Imaging Associates’ growth is driven by our strategic approach to expanding both services and our geographical footprint across public and private sectors in Victoria and NSW. By diversifying our offerings—from X-rays and MRI imaging to specialised services like interventional radiology, cardiac imaging, and nuclear medicine—we meet the broader needs of patients and healthcare providers.

Our growth is not just measured by numbers but by the patient experience. By placing the patient at the centre of everything we do—whether through online booking systems, modern, comfortable imaging centres, or a compassionate and skilled team—we’ve built trust and loyalty in the communities we serve.
