Lung Cancer Screening now available
As part of our CT services, we’re proud to offer bulk billed lung cancer screening through the Australian Government’s new National Lung Cancer Screening Program (NLCSP), a life-saving initiative launched in July 2025 to support early detection and reduce mortality. You may be eligible if you: Have a history of heavy smoking, are aged between 50 and 70 years, are asymptomatic and are a current smoker or have quit in the past 10 years.*
To arrange a lung cancer screening scan, visit your GP, who will assess your eligibility. If you qualify, your doctor will provide a referral for a Low-Dose CT Chest Scan. Once you have your referral, simply contact Imaging Associates Carlton to book your appointment.

What do you need to know about your Lung Cancer Screen?
A heavy smoker is defined in “pack-years”.
Pack-years are calculated by multiplying the number of years the person has smoked by the number of packs of cigarettes smoked per day. For example, 1 pack-year is equal to smoking 1 pack of cigarettes per day for 1 year. For the purposes of this calculation, 1 pack is equal to 20 cigarettes.
A 30 pack-year is equal to smoking 1 pack of cigarettes (20 cigarettes) per day for 30 years, or 2 packs per day for 15 years.
