MRI Requesting Rights for GPs

Imaging Associates Box Hill and Wagga Wagga can now offer patients high quality, comfortable and affordable MRI scans.

We have been granted a partial licence as part of the Australian Government’s MRI Expansion initiative. This initiative has extended GP requesting rights to include certain regions for specific clinical indications.

 

GP referred Medicare eligible MRI scans for patient under the age of 16

From 1 November 2012, GP’s are able to refer patients under the age of 16 for MRIs of small set of clinically appropriate indicators.

Regions included in this set are Head; Spine; Knee; Hip; Elbow and Wrist.

 

GP referred Medicare eligible MRI scans for patients 16 and above

As of November 1, 2013 GP requesting rights for a small set of clinically appropriate MRI indications were extended to all patients 16 years and older.

The new GP referred MRI items for patients over 16 years of age are for the following indications: scan of head and knee for certain indications, scan of the cervical spine for radiculopathy and trauma.
